Once more, my now bewildered Dove

Once more, my now bewildered Dove
Bestirs her puzzled wings
Once more her mistress, on the deep
Her troubled question flings —
Thrice to the floating casement
The Patriarch’s bird returned,
Courage! My brave Columba!
There may yet be land
Emily Dickinson
Noah’s Dove returns trice!
Once more, my now lost Dove
Extends her folded wings
Once more she flies faraway
To ask her tough question —
Noah’s bird thrice returned
To the floating Ark.
Courage! My brave Dove!
There may be yet land.
The poem is one of the two different apocryphal stories of Noah’s Dove.
